Great New Year Goals for Beautiful, Healthy Hair

Great New Year Goals for Beautiful, Healthy Hair

As the New Year rolls around and we get deep in the middle of winter, your hair may be giving you signs that it needs some extra TLC. Cold weather and indoor heaters mean dry air – which in turn can wreak havoc on your hair. Here are some tips for protecting your hair this winter. Better yet, make these tips part of your realistic New Year resolutions and feel good about achieving your goals!

Use hair care products specifically meant for dry winter hair. As the seasons change, so too should your hair care products. Shampoos and conditioners in the winter should have extra hydration to replenish the moisture it loses. Ask your Square One stylist which products are best for your hair condition and hair texture.

Wash less, condition often. Your hair contains natural oils – washing too often with shampoo and rinsing with hot water will deplete your hair of those essential oils. Instead, cutting down your shampooing to two or three times a week is adequate. If you feel your hair is limp and dull, feel free to use a dry shampoo in between washings. Although you should cut down on the shampoos, you should be conditioning your hair frequently to keep your hair moisturized. Rinse your hair with cool water to seal the moisture into your cuticle.

Nourish your hair weekly. Using a weekly hair masque or deep conditioner will help to replenish nutrients to your hair and repair your dry, damaged strands from damage done by heat styling, dry air, chemical processing, and other environmental factors. Your stylist will be able to give you a recommendation as to which is best for a smooth, frizz-free finish.

Visit Square One regularly. When you trim your hair every 4 to 6 weeks, it will help stop split ends which could cause breakage to your hair. It’s also nice for your stylist to be able to address any hair concerns, or indulge you in a deep conditioning treatment, to keep your hair healthy, shiny, and manageable all winter long.

Keep hydrated. Although it may be hard, drinking enough water each day is not only important to your health, but it helps to keep your hair hydrated as well. It’s all too easy in the winter months for the moisture to get sucked right out of your hair and skin, leaving you with dry, brittle hair and dry, cracked skin.

The holidays mean shopping for friends, family, and loved ones for that perfect gift. Give the gift of a Square One Salon gift card so that they can enjoy a day at our salon with any of our fabulous services or treatments that mean the most to them.

Let our stylists help give you the hairstyle you’ve been wanting, and the care your hair needs to stay healthy all winter long. Make an appointment at any of our Square One Salon locations. You can book online or call or visit one of our Ohio locations directly.
