When cooler weather arrives, your skincare routine often needs a few adjustments. Cold outdoor air, indoor heating, and seasonal changes can leave skin feeling dry, looking dull, or showing more noticeable texture. While you may think of exfoliation as something to focus on before summer, fall and winter can actually be great times to give your complexion a little extra professional attention.
At Square One Salon, dermaplaning is one option for refreshing the skin throughout the year. This gentle exfoliation service removes dead surface skin cells and fine facial hair, helping skin feel smoother and look brighter and more refreshed.
What Is Dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is a professional exfoliation technique that uses a dermaplaning tool to gently remove dead cells from the surface of the skin along with vellus hair, commonly called peach fuzz.
The goal isn't to dramatically change your skin. Instead, dermaplaning creates a smoother, more polished surface. Our dermaplaning is described as a non-irritating exfoliation technique that can instantly brighten the appearance of the skin and create a smoother canvas for makeup application.
It's a simple approach that can make a noticeable difference in how your skin looks and feels without requiring an aggressive treatment.
Why Consider Dermaplaning During Fall and Winter?
Cooler weather brings its own set of skincare challenges. Skin may feel drier as temperatures drop, especially when you're moving between cold outdoor air and heated indoor spaces. Dead surface cells can also contribute to a complexion that looks dull, rough, or uneven.
Dermaplaning helps remove some of that surface buildup. Once those dead cells and fine facial hairs are removed, skin can immediately feel softer and smoother.
This can be especially appealing during fall and winter when you're looking for a refreshed glow during a season when skin may otherwise appear a little lackluster.
Create a Smoother Surface for Your Skincare
Another benefit of dermaplaning is the smooth surface it creates for your skincare routine.
When dead surface cells and peach fuzz are removed, serums, moisturizers, and other skincare products can spread more evenly across the skin. Square One's post-treatment recommendations note that absorption levels can be enhanced following dermaplaning.
That can complement a moisture-focused fall or winter skincare routine, particularly when your skin is craving additional hydration.
It's important to remember that more exfoliation isn't necessarily better. Your skincare professional can help you determine how dermaplaning should fit alongside the other products and treatments you're already using.
Enjoy Smoother Makeup Application
Holiday parties, family gatherings, photos, weddings, and special events tend to fill the calendar during fall and winter. Dermaplaning can be a helpful addition to your beauty routine if you'd like your makeup to sit on a smoother surface.
Removing fine facial hair and dead surface buildup creates a more even canvas for foundation and other complexion products. We specifically recommend dermaplaning for creating a smoother surface for makeup application.
Just don't schedule your appointment immediately before an important event. We recommend staying makeup-free for at least 24 hours following treatment, so give your skin some time before applying your full makeup look.
What Should You Expect During Dermaplaning?
If you've never tried dermaplaning, you may wonder whether the process is uncomfortable. Square One notes that guests shouldn't experience pain or discomfort during the procedure. You'll simply relax while your skincare specialist performs the treatment.
We offer both a 30-minute Dermaplaning service and a 60-minute Dermaplaning with Facial service. The longer option combines dermaplaning with a facial for guests who want a more complete skincare experience.
Before beginning, your skincare professional can also evaluate whether dermaplaning is appropriate for your skin. Active acne lesions, cold sores, open wounds, sunburn, windburn, and certain other skin conditions or medications can make dermaplaning unsuitable at a particular time.
How to Care for Your Skin After Dermaplaning
After your appointment, gentle skincare is important. We recommend avoiding sun exposure for 48 to 72 hours and excessive heat, including heavy workouts and saunas, for three days. You should also temporarily avoid exfoliation, aggressive cleansing brushes, retinol, and harsh acids.
Instead, keep your routine simple. Use a gentle cleanser, moisturize at least twice a day, and apply broad-spectrum sunscreen daily. Even though the days may feel colder and darker, sunscreen remains important throughout fall and winter.
Most importantly, don't pick or scratch at your skin. Give it time to settle and enjoy that freshly exfoliated feeling.
Make Dermaplaning Part of Your Year-Round Skincare Routine
Dermaplaning doesn't have to be reserved for one particular season. We recommend treatments about every four weeks for best results, although the right schedule should always depend on your individual skin and professional recommendations.
Our professional facial services begin with a consultation so your skin therapist can assess your needs and customize your experience. In addition to dermaplaning, we offer customized facial and exfoliation services designed to address concerns including dryness, sensitivity, uneven skin tone, and dullness.
If cooler weather has your complexion feeling rough, dry, or less radiant than usual, dermaplaning may be a simple way to refresh your skincare routine. Schedule a dermaplaning appointment at Square One Salon and let a skincare professional help you create a plan for smoother, brighter-looking skin throughout fall, winter, and beyond.
